How do your beliefs contribute to your work? (Aaron's Question)
Sarah Vowell in my book discusses her beliefs that contribute to her work ethic in her art. How does the character in your book use their beliefs to contribute to their goals or work?
The main character in my book Lost in Places uses his belief that Zen monks are kung Fu masters as the inspiration to become a part of the culture. He believes they are smart and very high in rank. Mark wants to feel empowered and like he has a hold on his life. In effort for mark accomplish his goal to become a Zen monk he surrounds his self with artifacts as if he was in a Buddhist temple. If mark didn’t have a certain object he would use something else to symbolize or take its place. Mark believed in the monks so much and there methods he dedicated time and even offered to give up his high school years just to learn about their culture. He used his basement to create a space so he could contribute his time into learning more about the monks, so he could perfect his goal of becoming a Zen master.
The villagers in my book all have tradition. They're traditions connect with the work they do. Certain things are done a certain way because of their beliefs. Like whenever they kill an elephant and cook it. They all take the first bite at they same time in fear that if they don't they might get split lip.
In my book case it is not necessarily belief but tradition. The characts do not go off what they believe but what they are told to do or what is right. Their village is like an entire family. 'If their kid does not come home some one will bring them home' They share food and look out for each others goats. So far everyone abinds by the rules.
I am reading "They Poured Fire On Us From The Sky". The boys in my book come from Sudan, Africa. They believe men should work at a very young age. Therefor they respect their parents and do everything they possibly can to do their part. Every day they wake up and do all of their duties like they should. I'm not really sure what their biggest goals are yet, but i do know they work hard. I'm not sure if that answers your question all the way, but where there from hard work is all they know.
In the book They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky the main character Benson tells the reader of how his life is in Africa. He want to be like the other people that wear clothes and for him being a little cannot wear clothes because it was o.k. for his age without wearing no clothes. And for me when i was little i wanted to have certain things that teenagers and older people had. But i didn't understand during that time because it was little kid, but now i understand how things are in world.
I am also reading Sarah Vowell’s book. Her beliefs against guns are strong because the first time that her father let her shoot a gun she was 6 years old, and it scared the crap out of her. Ever since then she hates guns. Yet she did shoot a handmade cannon, that her father built, because she wanted to see if the damn thing even worked. But she did promise her father his wish when he passes away, to have his ashes shot out of that cannon.
The main charachter in Take the Cannolli has a religeous background that she says her mother instilled in her. I think her christian beliefs play a role in her work and goals because there were less distractions for her as a adolescent because of this.
Mark has his mind set on practicing to becoming a Zen Master. He has a very strong work ethic when he’s practicing. When I’m practicing I stay forces and won’t stop until I’m satisfied. I have a very strong work ethic during practice and performance hours. Like Mark there were times when I wanted to pursuit a different career. The reason why i returned to music performance because, I felt as thought that it is my calling to perform for big crowds
The kung-fu movies that the author of "Lost in Place", would watch gave him a great sense of inspiration to how he can become a Zen monk and what steps to take to becoming a Zen Monk. Not with just changing a hair style or a sudden change in clothes but also to change in a way that your beliefs are intertwined with the philiosphies and the teachings that a Zen monk follow on a day - to - day basis. For him to become what he wants to achieve he would first have to start with himself before he would persuade others to his voice of opinion.
My story is “They Poured Fire on Us from the Sky” the main character name Benson in the story is a hard worker .He has a solid work ethic when it comes to doing his daily chores such as: taking the goats, sheep and calves to graze and sitting by the nursery and protect the newly sprouted sorghum and maize. His family demands that he works hard because everyone in the household has a chore and things they do to contribute. His mother is an independent woman who prepares meal for everyone in the house so her leadership I believe is what drives him. he is only a young child but he is developing skills that can help him throughtout life.
In my book "They poured fire on us from the sky" the boy’s beliefs come from their fathers and other members of their village. Their belief system is passed down through generation of their ancestors. They use their beliefs to mold the way they live and shape them as a human being. They hunt, gather and protect their village with the thought that if you are a man you are morally obligated to learn from the adults to become strong, brave hunters like their forefather’s before them.
The character from my book Take the Cannoli this other girl from Music Lessons. She doesn’t just let others bring her down. She tries to keep doing what she want and achieve her goal. She was in the high school marching band. She has been in to music for a very long time. She like what she does and personally think that’s a good thing.
In most situations, no matter who the person is, their beliefs and views play a major part in their goals and work. In They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky, the boys’ village was attacked, and with all they had in them, they escaped. As little kids, they were running for their lives, traveling a journey of over one thousand miles. During the journey, the two brothers, Benson and Alepho, were separated for five years before they were ever reunited. They pushed themselves every day to make it to a better and safer place, until they finally succeeded. This situation caused them to use a lot of courage, pride, and a strong belief in something greater then what they were used to.
My Character Mark form the book "Lost In Place" contributes a lot of his time trying to be a Zen monk. Meditating in his basement trying to learn the philosophies of kung fu. He also tries to walk from school to his house bare feet everyday to get use to his pain in the cold. He also takes Kung fu classes when his mom promise him if he found a kung fu place where they would teach him the art of kung fu she would take him the next day.
