Think critically about what your character(s) been through so far in each of your books. What help do they need? What support do they need that they aren't receiving? Is the character(s) receiving the support or help they need but isn't realiving it? How can they recieve that support and why would they need help and or support through the situations that life has thrown at them.
I do not think my characters need help, it is too late. They need hope, something to look forward to, inspiration. Living and carrring on is their support. The survivers sticking together is awesome. They need it because of all the choas around them. Support will help them focus instead of depression or suicide.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Sarah Vowell’s book, Take the cannoli, and she does not need help. She is a very independent person who does not rely on others. If she needs something she will get it done herself. She does not need someone else to support her and her decisions she makes. The only time Sarah would have needed support was when she went to school because she did not have the money to pay for it all herself at that time.
ReplyDeleteIn my book “They poured fire on us from the sky” the characters have to deal with many problems that they face on the journey to Ethiopia. They need help in with things such as finding food and water. They are finding these things but in small amounts. I believe people in the villages could be more sympathetic towards the children because they require more attention than the adults. The children also need emotional support to help deal with their great losses. I feel that the adults in the group should not as to take care of the children but try to be a little more understanding of how they feel.
ReplyDeleteI think they need more of a higher power to rely on. In “They Poured Fire On Us From The Sky” all of the kids just start relying on soldiers and different adults. I think they need to look to God and pray that everything will work out for them. I’m looking for some type of priest or something to come rolling around to help them. They never know when their last day on earth will be, so I think they need to be ready. Maybe if they knew they were going to a better place when the passed, or knew that their family members who died were in a better place they would feel much better.
ReplyDeleteIn They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky, the characters need all the help they can get. Currently, they are running from their village, which is being attacked by another group of villagers over a religious matter. The boys are walking for months on end without anywhere to shower, eat, sleep, or a place to use for security and shelter. Every now and then, a group of soldiers or a nice passer buyer will leave them with food, but this only happens on a very rare occasion. The boys are doing everything in their power to make it to a place where they can get food, shelter, and even schooling. They need this help simply to survive.
ReplyDeleteFor my character's they had a very tough time looking for their families. Ever since the time when their homes was bombed, everything they had was lost. Most of the time the lost boys was looking for their parents trying to figure out if they was dead or alive. They ask people from different village if they have seen there parents or other siblings. They do get the help by there family members that they haven't met before. The Lost Boys usually help one other through what they only know and the people that takes cares of them trying to do there best by keeping them alive.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Mark from the book “Lost in Place” need better influence in his life to balance the bad. The support that he need is guidance from adults and some of his friends. He does receive the help he gets but the help isn’t always there to guide him. Mark needs help because he might be peer pressure in to the bad influence in his life he might take the risk of doing it cause he been growing up around that bad influence. Like his kung –Fu sensei is an alcoholic and does drugs, So he see what’s happening around him.
ReplyDeleteMy character Mark is not receiving the support that he wants from his parents. Marks want his parent to accept his dreams, and support him to do his best at becoming a Zen monk. Mark feel that he need the support of his parents, because he feels it will give him an extra push to really accomplish his dreams. Every child want their parent them to cheer them on. When children don’t get the support they want from the people that are supposed to give it, they always set out to please their parents or others to feel accepted or like they are doing something that matters.
ReplyDeleteThe characters’ in “They poured fire on us from the Sky” Are dealing with the fact that their villages have been shattered and they don’t have anywhere else to go. They have to walk a long trip to reach a place where they feel safe and can build their home back. I believe there in need of some food, clothing, and some help to restore their lives. I believe the habitation their traveling too will give them what is needed but they all won’t be able to receive it. The support that is needed hasn’t arrived yet so they are dying some starvation, infections and the heat.
ReplyDeleteSarah is a very independent person through the book Take the Cannoli. She learns to survive on her own by means of staying in school and traveling sometimes alone or with a friend. Even through in the book there are people that do not have the same views as Sarah at times, Sarah’s support comes from the differences she has with the people and experiences in her life. For example, when Sarah went to Disney World with a friend in Florida, she was surprised to find herself being intrigued to learn about Disney’s history while her friend wanted to get on the rides. The best support I think Sarah would need to have are, people in her life that can stoop to her level on issues regarding how things came into place and why she believes the way she believes in a certain situation. Going forward in the book I think she knows more about herself and strives to receive feedback from others are interested in the same subjects she is interested in.
ReplyDeleteMark (the main character) needs a lot of help. He wants to be a Zen Master and the only way he can become one if he learn from an actual Zen Master. Mark does stupid things in my eye, like walking to school bare foot.
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of difficult to say what exactly my chachter needs help with. Sarah Vowell seems like a very independent person and charachter. I do know however, that she would certainly benefit from more support as an artist and a larger circle of close friends. she described herself in Take the Cannoli as a "loner". I think if she was not a loner she would be more sociable and make more friends that would be willing to support her.
ReplyDeleteThe boys in my book that made it to Ethiopia are receiving help from the UN. But it is mostly just making things worse. The children are just getting sick from the food. They are not used to the food and it makes them sick. Some even die from the food. I think the only way for the boys to be truly happy and healthy would be to go back to there home village. But they can't because it's not safe, and on top of that its been destroyed.
ReplyDeleteIn my book Take the Cannoli Sarah Vowell does need some help. In the book she talks about her not having a child hood. She and her friend David had no other chose but to go to Disney World. So she told him and he was upset at first. At the end they had fun at Disney World. She took advantage of go to Disney World. She talked about how she saw people give food to their own kind. Like this on couple or family gave chicken to the birds. She thought was an abomination. She also need to recover and try to forget the bad things form her child hood and try to remember the good times she had. I think she is should having trouble from losing her dad and things like that. She also talked in the book that in this hotel she was lining in a person was killed their but she really wanted to live there. She got the chance she wanted but I think it was a bad idea. Why? Do you wanted to stay or live at a hotel that had all these bad things going on. I think she does need a little help. Some of the things might have been true but I never know. It was a big fence hotel she went and live in. That’s what she really wanted but I think that was a bad idea.
